When I speak or vote,
I want to know that I am
representing my constiuents
to the best of my abilty!

I care. One of the most common things that I hear from people, is that they don't believe their MLAs care about them. This is because an MLA's attachment to their party limits their ability to offer true representation. I am running for just this reason. As an independent I am the only candidate who is completely free to represent the constituents of Columbia River- Revelstoke.

Partisan MLAs are often unable to speak for you, if it conflicts with the what their party wants to do.
If a party proposes Legislation, the members of that party may only speak against it privately in Caucus or Cabinet meetings, both of which are extremely secretive. You are expected to simply take their word that they have tried, and have no evidence if it is true.

If your MLA wants to vote against his party he must ask for permission, and of course the party can say no. More commonly they will ask him or her  to leave the room as long as they have enough votes to pass the bill without that vote. Between June 2001 and April 2012, 32,328 votes were cast in the legislative Assembly; only 80 of them were not in party lines.

The Media is always looking for a good story and if your MLA speaks against their party it can easily get blown out of proportion. What kind of headline is "MLA Votes to Represent Constituents."? The media much prefers stories more like "MLA Stands Up to Party Leadership!" Being an Independent means that this situation wouldn't be a news story for me, it would be my every day job.

No party can tell me how to vote! In BC, all but two votes in the last four years were 100% in party lines. Imagine x created an app that can show you how your MLA votes. For a prime example of the difference with independent MLAs, check out Vicki Huntington, two-term independent from Delta South,  and see how she votes for her constituents.
I will have meaningful consultation with all people affected by a bill before deciding how I am going to vote on it, as opposed to the parties that simply tell their MLAs what they expect of them.

Independents can support a good idea no matter where it comes from.  If there are circumstances where the parties are doing something that will benefit our riding, I am willing and able to support any ideas that are put forth,
